Happiness is a Long Hot Seaweed Bath
On my bucket list is a trip to Ireland. Occasionally at a market I will run into someone who's been to Ireland and enjoyed a seaweed bath right by the ocean. The practice dates back to Edwardian times and most seaside towns offered them as a lovely way to relax and recharge.
Bathing in sea water is called Thalassotherapy. In addition to simply relaxing and a general feeling of wellness seaweed bathing can be very beneficial to anyone struggling with skin issues including detoxing, soothing Arthritis & Rheumatism, calming Eczema, Psoriasis and Acne and helping Fungal Infections heal. In Ireland you are not floating a few pieces of seaweed in your bath but immersing your entire body in a tub filled with seaweed. Literally wrapping yourself in healing seaweed from head to toe. Mmmmmm......
Bathing in seaweeds also helps you look your best. Well, part of looking good is feeling good and in addition to all the health benefits seaweeds improve the elasticity of skin as it tones and stimulates. I also read recommendations to place seaweed on your hair for a super charged conditioner. Head to toe in nourishing seaweed.
Sadly my bucket trip to Ireland is not yet on my calendar. The next best thing is to treat yourself to a spa day right at home. The first step and I recommend doing this the day before is to deep clean your bathroom and take some time to get a relaxing ambience going. Candles, incense, flowers, music anything that helps create serenity. The day of your "spa treatment" make sure you have an hour or two just for you. This is really important and we need to empower ourselves to give the gift of time. I guarantee you will not be relaxed if the kids are bickering, the dog barking and you are checking your phone. Unplug yourself.
Fill your tub, turn on music, light a few candles and immerse yourself in a seaweed bath. At Dulse & Rugosa we make a few products for deep relaxation including our Seaweed Packs for Sunburn and Stress. We also have a Hair Mask which is perfect for bathtub relaxing.
